Sierra Energy's FastOx® gasification turns waste into hydrogen without burning. FastOx gasification uses oxygen and steam to heat waste up to 2,200°C, where waste breaks down at the molecular level. Organic material is converted into hydrogen and inorganic material is recovered as either a non-leaching stone or molten metal. Feedstocks successfully tested in the gasifier include post-recycled MSW, plastics, medical waste, e-waste, tires, batteries, petcoke, and railroad ties. The technology does not produce process emissions and all outputs are saleable. Sierra Energy is currently designing a 100MTPD system capable (depending on system configuration) of producing up to 10MT/day of hydrogen gas at 99.98% purity. Sierra Energy’s 10MTPD fully integrated commercial-scale demonstration facility, which was funded in part by the California Energy Commission and the DoD, is located at U.S. Army Garrison Fort Hunter Liggett in Monterey County, California.
