PLEASE NOTE: FROM JUNE 16, 2024 UNTIL JULY 7, 2024, THE CHURCH WILL BE INSTALLING NEW ICONOGRAPHY. AS A RESULT, THERE WILL BE SCAFFOLDING ERECTED IN THE CHURCH. IF YOU WISH TO SCHEDULE A BAPTISM DURING THIS TIME, PLEASE CALL THE CHURCH OFFICE TO SPEAK WITH FR. LOUIS.

ALL SACRAMENTS ARE SCHEDULED EVERY 2 HOURS FROM 10AM - 4PM ON FRIDAYS AND SATURDAYS AND FROM 1PM - 5PM ON SUNDAYS.

Required Items

Please bring or mail in the following items with the completed forms (DO NOT FAX):
 
1. Upload Bride’s Baptismal certificate.
2. Upload Groom’s Baptismal certificate.
#. Upload Sponsor's (Koumbaro/Koumbara) Baptismal Certificate.
3. Upload Letter of Good Standing from Sponsor's (Koumbaro?Koumbara) home parish if not a steward of The Assumption Church of Port Jefferson.
4. Chanter Fee - $125.00. Please make check payable to Peter Dimeck.
5. Caretaker Fee - $125.00. Please make check payable to Jeffrey Smith.
6. Organist (if needed) - $150. (The Church will contact you regarding who to make the check out to)
 
STEWARDSHIP:
1. It is a requirement that either the bride or the groom be a steward in good standing with the Orthodox Church. If you are not a steward in another church, please call the church office at 631-473-0894 or click here. 
2. If you are a steward in another church there is a $400 Sacrament fee required for the Assumption Church and a Leter of Good Standing from the church you are a steward at. Please make check payable to GOCOA (For non-stewards only - This is NOT Stewardship) and mail to Assumption Church, 430 Sheep Pastyre Rd., Port Jefferson, NY 11777.
 
 
PLEASE NOTE: THAT THE ARCHDIOCESE WILL NOT ISSUE A MARRAIGE LICENSE UNTIL THIS FORM AND THE ABOVE ITEMS ARE RECEIVED. ALL OF THE ABOVE ITEMS MUST BE RECEIVED 3 WEEKS PRIOR TO THE WEDDING.
 
Once all required forms are received the bride and groom will come to the office to sign the official affidavit.
 
WEDDING DAY REQUIREMENTS
1. Stefana (wedding crowns)
2. Silver Tray with Koufeta (Candied Almonds)
3. Two (2) small candles
4. Wedding Rings
 
CHURCH DECORATION GUIDELINES
The Greek Orthodox Church is adorned with only those things that remind us of Heaven, and therefore do not require any additional decorating. However, certain items are acceptable for weddings.
 
1. Flower arrangements on the pews down main aisle only. No nails, tape, glue, etc. are allowed to affix flowers.
2. Two (2) floral arrangements only. They must not be higher than three (3’) feet tall (Including stand)
3. Two (2) large candles not taller than three (3’) feet high including stands.
 
WEDDING REHEARSALS
Wedding rehearsals are not required. If you still would like a wedding rehearsal, please call the church office to make the arrangements.
 
WEDDING SEMINAR
Each couple is required to attend a one (1) day seminar prior to your wedding.

Sponsor (Koumbaroi) Information

Please note that the person who will be exchanging the crowns must be an Orthodox Christian in good standing.
 
What is Good Satanding?
1. Must be baptized and Chrismated according to the canons of the Orthodox Church.
2. If married, must have been married in an Orthodox Church.
3. If previously married, and the marriage was dissolved by divorce, an Ecclesiastical Divorce maust have been granted.
4. Must be a steward in good standing of an Orthodox Church.
    A) If you are not a steward in another church, yo umust become a steward of the Assumption Church of Port                Jefferson.
    B) If you are a steward in another church, you must provide a "Letter of Good Standing" from your parish.
